What's in a Name?

I'm often curious about the story behind a shop or blog name, so I thought I'd share mine!

Now, I'll warn you . . . It's not clever, sentimental, or even very personal, but it is what it is! Sophie Lynn is not my name. My name, well, it just wouldn't work. Neither is Sophie Lynn my child's name, or grandmother's, or anyone I know for that matter. Actually, I didn't start out to use a person's name at all!

Late one evening, I went to Etsy to sign up for an account. Time to choose a username that no one else uses. I'd been brainstorming for several days and had a couple options I liked. Unfortunately, they were already in use. I started typing in other name ideas. Everything I could think of was taken! Everything with "rose," "cherry blossom," "princess," "angel," "pumpkin,"  or "lane" was taken. I guess I wasn't very original.

I had just been reading my all time favorite book series Anne of Green Gables, so I thought maybe I could use a name from a person or place in the book. Would you believe it? Everything I thought might work was taken! Idlewild, Anne Cordelia . . .

Then out of frustration, I started trying things that I thought no one would ever want, such as names with "boogers" in them. Even some of those were taken!!!

I tried making up a word. No go!

Ate some chocolate. Didn't help.

Asked the hubby for suggestions. Umm, nope!

Finally, I set out to find a name you would call a person - that way I wouldn't be limited to a certain style or even a certain type of item if I changed my mind. I love the name Emily Grace (can't name a daughter that - poor child would have EGG for initials), but it was not to be. So I just started typing in names until I found one I liked that was available.

And so, much, much, much later, Sophie Lynn was born! That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. What's yours?
